In celebration for the Daegu vist year the city prepared a beauty tour club program for Daegu visitors and foreigners who currently live in Daegu.
It’s not a real club though. It just provides you a 30% off coupons.

They say there are lots of beautiful women in Daegu. (Hmm.. As a Daegu woman, I agree to that. LOL)

1.   You have to make a reservation through the website to get a discount.  (Today’s reservation not accepted) 
2.   You will get reservation number via text message.
3.   Visit the hair salon on the reserved date.
4.   Show your txt message with reserv number and ID card.
5.   Time for a hair makeover!!

Performances & Exhibitions for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011

1. “Experience Traditional Markets” in Mountain Palgong

A rare opportunity to experience traditional mountain-village marketplaces will be given to the public at Donghwa Temple in Mountain Palgong from Sept. 1 to 5. Participants at the special event will have a chance to freely eat boiled rice cooked with lotus leaves and drink chrysanthemum tea, both typical Buddhist temple foods. They will be also given a chance to make a deep bow and make a wish after wearing Buddhist monks’ robes. During the “Experience Culture” session, they will produce pottery by hand as well as making fans and masks. Foreigners who are not familiar with the Buddhist rites will have a chance to recite Banya-simgyeong (Prajñā-Paramitā Sutra), perhaps the best known Buddhist script. Besides, diverse Buddhism-related exhibitions and performances are scheduled to be held. For information, call 053-803-3883.

2. The “Discover Beautiful Worth” Exhibition

Aimed at better introducing to the public the beauty of traditional Korean handicraft with both practical and artistic value, the “Discover Beautiful Worth” exhibition is under way at the Kyungpook National University Art Museum until Sept. 15. As many as 33 pieces of handcraft works that won prizes at the prestigious Cheongju International Craft Biennale are on display. The art museum is open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday. The admission is free. For information, call 053-950-7968.

3. The “Made in Daegu” Photo Show

Active Daegu-based photographers are presenting their photos at Daegu Art Museum until Nov. 20. Gallery-goers will have a rare glimpse of the culture and philosophy of Korea through photos on display. The insight of the photo artists will suggest a new paradigm for the Korean culture. Viewers will have a chance to reconsider their life by looking at the photos dealing with existential human issues and actual life. The art museum is open from 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. (6 p.m. from November) and is closed on Mondays. The admission is 700 won. For information, call 053-790-3000.

4. An Outdoor Stage Performance of Traditional Korean Music

The Daegu Traditional Korean Music Association will present a free concert at the Daegu Kolon Outdoor Concert Hall on Sept. 1 and 2, to commemorate the IAAF World Championships hosted by the city of Daegu. The performance pieces are designed to display the dynamic power and the regional identity of Daegu. On Sept. 1, Dalgubeol Traditional Music Orchestra will perform traditional-bound old Korean music. The second day event will feature the performance of a shaman ritual indigenous to Daegu villages and a farmers’ percussion band. For information, call 053-256-7957.

Play Smart Music Festival

There are lots of events to celebrate the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011.
At the EXCO, the PLAY SMART MUSIC FESTIVAL supported by SAMSUNG started off yesterday.

and reporters.

Story of the Opening Ceremony of the IAAF World Championships 2011

Did you witness what happened on Aug 27th 2011??It was the fancy Opening Ceremony to announce the beginning of the world festival.

With Women’s Marathon event, World Champs literally started, and at 7PM the ceremony had begun.

Before the ceremony, Sarbi cheering team performed for a little while. Some guests made some moves with joy.

Show host Kim Jong Suk introduced Sarbi, the mascot of the IAAF World Champs Daegu 2011.

Korean famous marathoner Lee Bong Ju had a race with some Sabsalgaes which is the model of Sarbi.

With 4 themes of '모음', '다듬', '깨움', '돋움', '띄움' ('Gathering', 'Preparing', 'Awakening', 'Sprint', and 'Dreams come true') the ceremony revealed its spectacular movement.

In ‘Preparing’ session, the participants performed creatively showing Daegu’s welcomes to visitors.

Beautiful Hanbok, Korean traditional clothing, captured my eyes.

In ‘Preparing’, the flag bearers are at the head of the parade.

Color guard consists of foreign students living in Daegu or Kyoungbuk area in terms of world peace.

Korean flag Taegeukgi came into the site lastly.

After welcome speech of Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City/Co-president of the Organizing Committee, Bum-Il and Lamine Diack IAAF president,

and Lee Myeng Bak the president of South Korea declared the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 open.

In ‘Sprint’, with the performance in memory of the late Great Son (Son Ki Jung) Korean gold medalist in Berlin Olympic in 1936 in Men’s Marathon they found an echo in everybody’s heart.

In ‘Dreams come true’, the Djinns of victory made performance holding bay leaves.

It was spectacular and overwhelming.
Next, world famous Korean soprano Jo Su Mi made an exquisite stage. Large artificial full moon came up to shine in the dark and multimedia art show begun.

Korean pop singer In Sooni and Hu gak appeared to sing the theme song of the Champs.

The white balloons are lined up.

The opening ceremony ended with the participants flying the balloons,

and magnificent fireworks embroidered the night sky.

Long prepared IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 was unveiled impressively. We propose a toast to the success of the festival!
