    Hi everyone,😊

Have you heard about the Dongchon Recreation Area in Daegu?

The Dongchon Recreation Area, Daegu is an amusement facility located in downtown Daegu and on beautiful clear days, like we’ve been having recently, it’s a popular venue for a day-out.

Located in Hyomok-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, the Dongchon Recreation Area is equipped with a spacious parking lot, restrooms, restaurants and cafes nearby all of which contribute to its weekend popularity with locals.

It's an ideal place to go out with your family, your loved ones or friends during the picnic season. So, in today’s post, we are going to spend a day at the Dongchon Recreation Area, taking in the scenery, trying out things it has to offer, visiting gourmet restaurants nearby and taking in the landmarks and some truly stunning nighttime views.

🏞️The unobstructed view of the Geumho River and a refreshing view of the Dongchon Recreation Area🏞️
✅Address: 1314 Hyomok-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea
✅Transport: 10 min walk from Dongchon Station (Daegu Subway Line 1) Exit. 2

When visiting by subway, you can access the Dongchon Recreation Area by a simple 10 min walk from Dongchon Station, Daegu Subway Line 1, Exit 2.

There’s a trail with dense trees at the rear of the recreation area
And the front of the area harmonizes with the Geumho River presenting a vista that’s peaceful and beautiful.

Looking around, locals are enjoying their time here at the Dongchon Recreation Area in a variety of ways; sitting on the benches, playing badminton, jogging, etc.

No more getting all sweaty using a paddle boat! Welcome aboard an easy and pleasant electric duck boat😘

✅Price (30 mins):  Electric Duck Boat (for 1~4ppl ) 20,000KRW

Four-seater Whale Boat (for 1~4ppl) 19,000KRW

Duck paddle boat (for 3~4ppl) 18,000KRW

Duck paddle boat (for 2ppl) 15,000KRW

From among the variety of experiences on offer, I decided to try riding a duck boat, the best way to enjoy the Geumho River at first hand.

If you’ve visited Korea before, you may have ridden a duck paddle boat on the Han River, and so know that this can be quite tough going. The Dongchon Recreation Area, Daegu has ‘Electric Duck Boats’ that allow you to have a pleasant duck boat cruise without needing to paddle hard and get all breathlessly sweaty.

I didn’t want to get too hot
but thanks to the brand-new electric duck boats, I was able to enjoy a very pleasant boating experience on the Geumho River.

This boat ride enables you to take in the view of the recreation area at a glance and it’s such a refreshing and special experience that I strongly recommend you have a go when you visit the Dongchon Recreation Area.

A popular destination for the best-ever selfie: Haemaji Park (Sunrise Park), Daegu🌄
✅Address: 212-2 Hyomok-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea

If you walk 10 mins from Dongchon Recreation Park,
you’ll reach Haemaji Park (Sunrise Park).

Haemaji Park is such a well-known place for watching the sunrise, that it’s called ‘Sunrise Point’. Also, from here you can gaze at: Mt Palgongsan’s main ridge to the north, Haemaji (Sunrise) Bridge to the east, and to the south, you can see Mt. Seongamsan and Mt. Apsan.

Apart from sunrise, Haemaji Park is a popular because from here, when it’s clear in May~June, you can see the vista of Daegu city and, in summer and autumn, beautiful crimson sunsets.

Apart from this popular selfie spot,
Haemaji Park has a lot of beautiful trails,
and you can enjoy stunning scenery surrounded by flowers all year round so
we strongly recommend a visit.

A gourmet restaurant near the Dongchon Recreation Area: ‘Dyubyu’, a sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) restaurant 😋🤍
✅Address: 19 Hyodong-ro 2-gil, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea
✅Opening hours: 11:00 ~ 21:00 ( Last order: ~ 20:30 )
✅Tel.: +82 (0)53-952-7073
✅Signature dishes: Sundubu (soft tofu) 9,000KRW
                  Baekdubu (white tofu stew) 9,000KRW

So, you’ve ridden a duck boat and taken the best-ever selfie, what next?
Now’s the time to fill your empty stomach. 🤤
I filled mine by visiting a popular tofu restaurant ‘Dyubyu’ which is close to the Dongchon Recreation Area.

I visited this restaurant as I wanted to eat something Korean that is filling, but not too heavy. When I went up to the second floor, there were quite a few seats free, and the restaurant was tidy so I had a pleasant atmosphere in which to dine!

The food was authentic and nicely arranged, with a variety of side dishes available such
as: Aehobak muchim (cooked zucchini salad), Gaji bokkeum (stir-fried eggplants), Japchae
(stir-fried Korean glass noodles), etc. allowing you to taste an assortment of Korean dishes.

As Dyubyu is a tofu restaurant there’s a good variety of tofu dishes available.
We tried the Sundubu ttukbaegi (soft tofu served in earthenware/ 9,000KRW) set meal and
a portion of Suyuk (boiled pork belly/10,000KRW).

The Sundubu jjigae was quite spicy and delicious.
It was red but not as spicy as I thought it might be
and as it was served in ttukbaegi (earthenware), the dish stayed warm to the last mouthful.

You can feel and taste in the tofu’s soft and creamy freshness that it’s been made here in the Dyubyu restaurant.
It was a very satisfying and healthy meal.

✨Yeongnam Jeilgwan where you can feel the breath of history on your shoulder✨

✅Address: 248 Palhyeon-gil (Manchon-dong), Suseong-gu, Daegu, South Korea
✅Tel.: +82 (0) 53-666-2863
✅Opening hours: April ~ November – Weekdays: 09:00 ~ 18:00 / Weekends: 10:00 ~ 18:00
                       December ~ March – Weekdays: 09:00 ~ 18:00 / Weekends: Closed

After our meal, we boosted our digestion with a 15min stroll to Yeongnam Jeilgwan.

Yeongnam Jeilgwan was the south gate of the Daegu Eupseong Fortress in the Joseon Dynasty period.
After being destroyed during the Imjin War, it was restored in 1736 during the reign of King Yeongjo. And it was rebuilt in its current location on Mangu Park hill in 1980.

Yeongnam Jeilgwan has a two-story gatehouse that sets it apart from other eupseong fortresses and shows the status of the Daegu area, which used to be the center of government for the Gyeongsang-do region.

The magnificence of the solid, lavish, and grand exterior is truly overwhelming and
from the front of Yeongnam Jeilgwan can take in the view of the Geumho River.

I had a relaxing time gazing at Mangu Park and the Dongchon Recreation Area from the 2nd floor of the gatehouse.

Yeongnam Jeilgwan was a lovely place to stop and admire this tranquil and relaxing scene while feeling the breath of history on my shoulder😊

Even more beautiful scenery at night: Night views of the Dongchon Recreation Area
✅Address: 1314 Hyomok-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea

After spending a very pleasurable afternoon at the Dongchon Recreation Area,
I came back to where I’d ridden the duck boat earlier, to see the stunning night view.

Although the Dongchon Recreation Area is more well-known as a place for viewing the sunrise,
it is also equally beautiful at sunset.

Ayanggyo Bridge, which spans the tranquil Geumho River, stands out in the photo.
At night, the lights on the bridge illuminate the scene
creating an atmosphere that’s perfect for a nighttime stroll.

These days a lot of people come and visit the area with camping chairs, tables, and blankets to enjoy picnicking under the stars.

How about spending a day at the Dongchon Recreation Area and rounding your day off with some delicious food and stunning nighttime views? 😘
