A long time ago, countless battles took place in Daegu. Among them, the "Communist Battle" at Palgongsan Mountain during the post-Samguk period, which was a period of fierce war on the Korean Peninsula around the 9th and 10th centuries A.D., is still one of the most talked about. Today, I'd like to introduce the site of General Sin Sung-gyum's death in lieu of Wang Geon.
General Sin Sung-gyum's Historic Site
General Sin Sung-gyum, the founder of the Pyeongsan Sin Clan, was killed in 918 when Taejo of Goryeo was surrounded by the enemy and disguised in the clothes of King Taejo.
King Taejo mourned the death of General Sin Sung-gyum and buried him in the present Chuncheon, Gwanghaeju at that time, and prayed for his repose. In the 40th year of King Seonjo's reign, Yoo Young-soon, a landscape observer, held a memorial service for Sin Sung-gyum. In the 8th year of King Gojong's reign, Pyochoongsa Temple was removed due to the Seowon Cheol Ruins, and descendants have built new Pyochoongjae.
At the beginning of August, the Crape Myrtle ("Baelong" in Korean) trees' flowers were in full bloom, showing off their bright red petals. Starting with pure cutting at the entrance, there were white mulberries everywhere from Pyochoongsa Temple to Pyochoongsa Temple.
A couple of old berry trees were also in full bloom next to Sunjeoldan, which was designated as Daegu Metropolitan City's Local Cultural Heritage Monument No. 1 as a place where General Shin Sung-kyeom died.
