To celebrate upcoming Buddha's Birthday, May 19, we'd love to introduce you an original festival that only could be seen in Daegu nowadays — 2021 Colorful Merrymaking at the Lantern Festival (형형색색 달구벌 관등놀이). Let's head out to the gorgeous way to play with the lights at the downtown!
2021 Colorful Merrymaking at the Lantern Festival
2021 Colorful Merrymaking at the Lantern Festival, or "Hyeonghyeong Saeksaek Dalgubeol Gwandeungnori" in Korean, originated from Unified Silla era. It is an event that has become a festival to memory a meaning of ancient lantern festival.
The most popular event was "Floating Wish Lantern", which was held at Duryu Park, has been cancelled under various kinds of reasons. Maybe we might encounter the marvelous scene again, sooner or later!
If you feel not easy to wait for the festival and the lovely scene of lanterns, you might have attention to Gukchae-bosang Movement Park instead. Daegu Metropolitan City government and Daegu Buddhism Association installed beautiful sculptures with lanterns!
2021 Colorful Merrymaking at the Lantern Festival runs until May 19. You might face with many, many lotus lanterns and sculptures around the Dalgubeol Daejong, and on the streets.
It's a real pity that we missed the breathtaking moment of "Floating Wish Lantern" moment in this year. But if things are going on well, we would be able to watch the original scene of the festival, with light lanterns and some more!
