Daegu Modern Alley
When visiting the tourist information service you can get a map that shows all the different courses you can take to make the most of your visit to the modern alley. If you’re planning on visiting many places in Daegu, you can buy a stamp tour (1000won). This is a fun way to discover the hidden secrets of Daegu.
The modern alley is a less known part of Korea, but is definitely worth visiting as it shows the changes that the people and the city went through after the Korean war.

Course 5: This course is 2.12km long and takes 1 hour 40 minutes. The starting point is Banwoldang and it ends at the nunnery Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres.
The modern alley hosts lots of festivals during the year. The most recent one was Daegu Yangyeongsi Herb Medicine Culture Festival. The festival ran from the 3rd of May till the 7th of May.
Daegu Yangyeongsi used to be an international market, dating back 350years. The Herb Medicine Market was selling herbal medicines from China, Russia and European regions. The festival lets visitors experience medicinal herbs found in Korean mountains, and relaxing and curative healing procedures.
Where to eat?
한옥국시 – Hanok Gugsi located next to medical street
It’s a cute little shop where they sell the typical noodles, pancakes, etc. It is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. This place used to be the house of Chinese poet Han Kukyo.
We ordered two types of cold noodles and one pajon. The dishes were served with 5 different side dishes. We paid 15 000won in total.
