Daegu's Major Traditional Markets


Chuseok, the Korean thanksgiving is just around the corner.
Chuseok is one of the biggest and most important holidays in South Korea. Ahead of Chuseok, Koreans are busy preparing traditional food. Family members gather at their homes to hold a memorial service(called ‘Charye’) for their ancestors and enjoy by sharing gifts and food. It’s the usual way to celebrate the traditional holidays in South Korea.

One week before Chuseok, most local markets in Korea are crowded with plenty of fresh food products and dishes to serve up for Chuseok. If you happen to travel in Korea around the holiday season, take a trip around Daegu′s traditional markets to see the real Korea. You will get a glimpse into the authentic lives of Koreans.

This year, Chuseok falls on September 15 and it is celebrated for five days including the weekend. 


  Seomun Market in Daegu




The biggest traditional market in Daegu!
If you love food, you should not miss this market! When it gets dark, the night market opens from 7:30 to 12:00 every night(Fri, Sat until 12:30).

  Chilseong Market




Chilseong Market is one of the biggest traditional markets in Daegu. It is famous for Jokbal(pig's trotters cooked with soy sauce and spices) food alley.

  Banyawol Market




Banyawol traditional market is a five-day market in Daegu that is open on dates that end with 1 or 6(1, 6, 11, 16, 21, 26). When it falls on the 31st, then it is open on the 1st of the next month.

During the holiday season, make sure to double-check the operation hours of your desired destinations, since most places of business are closed at some point during the holidays.
